In June (on Father’s Day) workshop participants will be making Fire Pokers. No previous blacksmithing experience is required for this project.
Forge a connection with the past in our 1902 blacksmith shop!
Our blacksmith workshop series is back for another year. Each workshop will give students hands-on experience working with our coal forge to complete their project, this project focuses on the creation of a fire poker. Students will learn how to work safely in a blacksmith shop and manipulate metal to achieve the shapes required for their project.
Participants in our blacksmith shop workshops must be 16 or older. All participants will be required to sign a safety waiver at the beginning of class.
Though participants do not need to bring their own tools or safety equipment they are required to wear or bring the following:
- natural fibre clothing (cotton, wool, linen – synthetic fibres can melt when close to the forge)
- work boots – we do not require steel-toe boots but sturdy boots that will keep you safe against dropped items are a must
- Long hair should be tied back
- do not wear flammable products like hairspray
- optional safety equipment: safety glasses, ear plugs, leather gloves
