SUMMARY:S-hook Workshop (June)
DESCRIPTION:New in 2024 we are offering mini-workshops! The mini-workshops give students a taste of blacksmithing with a project that is designed to take less time than our large project workshops. Each mini will let students make a small item that allows them to dip their toes into the art of blacksmithing. In June Mini-Workshop Students will make an s-hook! S-hooks are a very common beginner project in blacksmithing. The decorative elements that can be added to an s-hook are nearly as endless as the uses for an s-hook. \n \nForge a connection with the past in our 1902 blacksmith shop! \nOur blacksmith workshop series is back for another year. Each workshop will give students hands-on experience working with our coal forge to complete their project\, this project focuses on the creation of an s-hook. Students will learn how to work safely in a blacksmith shop and manipulate metal to achieve the shapes required for their project. \nParticipants in our blacksmith shop workshops must be 16 or older. All participants will be required to sign a safety waiver at the beginning of class. \nThough participants do not need to bring their own tools or safety equipment they are required to wear or bring the following: \n\nnatural fibre clothing (cotton\, wool\, linen – synthetic fibres can melt when close to the forge)\nwork boots – we do not require steel-toe boots but sturdy boots that will keep you safe against dropped items are a must\nLong hair should be tied back\ndo not wear flammable products like hairspray\noptional safety equipment: safety glasses\, ear plugs\, leather gloves\n\nIf you have any questions please get in touch at bookings@lacombemuseum.com or 403-782-3933 \nWe look forward to seeing you and your freshly forged s-hooks in June!
