Abstract:
Lacombe is an outstanding example of good heritage management practice.  Rare in the Alberta context, the City has been able to maintain a critical mass of heritage building stock while allowing for development and the natural evolution of the community.  What is the key to Lacombe’s success?  Consistency – via a heritage ethic and management practice that stretches back over 30 years.  This presentation will examine the sustained success in Lacombe – starting early Alberta Main Street Project (1980s/1990s), we will continue through the Historic Places Initiative (2000s), and wrap up with the current Survey/Inventory updates.  We will also celebrate some new Municipal Historic Resources – these heritage designations further highlight Lacombe’s Consistency and Success.

Local participants who wish to attend, but are limited with internet service are invited to join us in person at the Flatiron Building Museum, where we will be streaming a live feed of the conversation on the big screen.
