Join us for the joint exhibit opening on October 5th from 6-8pm, where “Speaking the Inuit Way” and “The Ones We Met” will be showcased at the Flatiron Building Museum.
“Speaking the Inuit Way” introduces viewers to the diversity of the Inuit language, highlighting Inuit writing systems, dialect differences, and modern revitalization efforts while illustrating how the language reflects both historical and contemporary Inuit culture and identity. Developed by the Canadian Language Museum, this exhibit will run until December 2nd, 2023, and is presented in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English, and French – the four official languages of Nunavut.
“The Ones We Met” is an interactive exhibit that presents Inuit traditional knowledge (Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit) and the modern archaeological research that located the wrecks of ships from the Franklin Expedition, Sir John Franklin’s 1845 attempt to locate the Northwest Passage. Developed by the Canadian Museum of History in collaboration with the Inuit Heritage Trust, this exhibit will be on display until December 30th, 2023. Like “Speaking the Inuit Way,” it is also presented in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English, and French, the official languages of Nunavut. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the rich stories of Inuit culture in Northern Canada.
On display at the Flatiron Building Museum from October 6th – December 30th, 2023.
